Best Five Rock Guitarists

1. David Gilmour- David Gilmour was the lead guitarist for one of the most influential bands of all time: Pink Floyd. His technical ability, creativity, and versatility is unmatched by any other guitarist. Pink Floyd's eerie sound is perfectly complemented by Gilmour's perfectly crafted solo's. Gilmour's ability is best displayed on the album "Wish You Were Here" with songs such as "Shine on You Crazy Diamond", "Wish You Were Here", "Have A Cigar", and "Welcome To The Machine".

2. Jimi Hendrix- Jimi is most likely the most influential guitarist of all-time. Although he is most well known for his acid-rock style songs such as "Purple Haze" his ability is best displayed on the album "Axis: Bold As Love". Songs such as "Little Wing", and "Bold As Love" demonstrate the amazing chord voicing that Jimi was capable of and the two of the best guitar solos of all time.

3. Eric Clapton- Clapton has probably the best technique among all rock guitarist. His songs are all crafted to perfection with not a single misplaced note. He also wrote one of the greatest riffs of all time with "Layla" which he then proceeded to absolutely ruin when he decided to do an unplugged version.

4. Randy Rhoads- I believe Randy Rhoads could possibly have been the best guitarist of all time had he not died in his early twenties. Rhoads was the guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and, by elevating the band's music to a level beyond Ozzy's thin voice, was responsible for most of the singer's success. However, his short career gives me a lack of material to prove his position as the best so he resides at four. His notable songs would be the extremely popular "Crazy Train", which is probably the most played riff next to "Smoke On The Water" by beginning guitarists, "Mr. Crowley" which has an amazing solo, and "Over The Mountain" which also has an amazing solo.

5. Jimmy Page- Page was the lead guitarist for Led Zeppelin, one of the most influential bands of the 70's. He was a master of intricate songs and melodies, as is demonstrated by one of the most popular rock songs of all-time, "Stairway to Heaven". Not to be forgotten are his loud, fast, and amazing solos. Personally, my favorite is his solo in "Whole Lotta Love" which also is his shortest recorded solo.
